How to use your Wordpress COW

This is a collection of a few 'HOW TO' ideas to get you started using your blog.

Please note that edublogs also uses the Wordpress blog engine, so there's a comprehensive set of tutorials at this link too.  (Should open in a new window)

And, from Wordpress themselves, there's a step by step guide here

1. Writing a new post

First, log in to the site.  You will have received an email with a user name and password.  If you can't locate this, then email Roger.

To log in, look for the Login link.  It will usually be in the right menu bar in a section headed Meta.  If not, look around the site and you should see a login link somewhere on the page.

(Please note, that Wordpress is constantly being updated and that the appearance of some of these areas may change over time.  The general principles will be similar though.)

After you log in, you will be taken to the 'Dashboard'  This area has a menu of options to the left which will allow you to add new posts, add media (like pictures and video), add users, change the appearance of your blog, and adjust a range of settings.

To get started, let's just concentrate on the Post area.

   Click 'Posts'
You'll see that you can choose to 'Edit' an existing post, or add a new post.

Before you add a new post, you'll probably have to remove whatever post has been put there by the blogging engine or when the blog was set up.

After you click the 'Edit' button, you'll see a list of current posts.  When you roll your mouse over a post title, you'll see the Edit| Quick Edit | Delete | View choices appear. Click Edit.

You can now edit the post.  Simply change the heading in the heading box and delete the text and add your own.

Note that you can add images, movies and sound using the buttons above the text formatting buttons.

If you choose to add images, use the 'Browser Uploader' option.

When you have made the changes you need, remember to click Publish or Update Post.

Have fun !!
